As part of events highlighting the25th anniversary of the demise of Nadew Command and the subsequent liberation of Afabet semi-urban center, a monument has been erected at Kisad Mes’halit.

The monument depicting the heroic feats of the Eritrean people in general and the EPLF freedom fighters in particular was inaugurated by the Administrator of the Northern Red Sea region, Ms. Tsigerda Woldegiorgis.

Various poems and cultural shows were presented at the ceremony attended by Army commanders and government officials, as well as freedom fighters in action during the historic operation and participants of the commemoration, reports indicated.

Kisad Mes’halit which is located 42 Km. south of Afabet is a strategic place that witnessed a life-and-death struggle during the operation to encircle the Ethiopian forces of occupation through hindering back-up enemy force from Keren city.
